In my typical fashion, I have neglected my blog posting only to want to start again in the summertime when my workload is a little less daunting. Not that it is yet, of course. Grad school is a heck of a lot of work. But, like the comic says, I would not want to be doing anything else. Come on now, I'm getting paid to read!
So far I've completed two classes per semester (Fall and Winter) and I just finished the classes for my super intense spring class. Seriously. Two conference papers, a historical presentation, a week of leading class discussion and a 20 page paper is a bit difficult for a 6 week class, but I'm almost done. Just the final paper left. I just have to keep reminding myself that this time next week, it'll just be me and my thesis for the next year :D Is it sad that I'm excited about that?
I am also extremely excited about this summer! I have so much planned! My siblings, my best friend and (possibly) a long-distance flirtation are all coming to visit me and with any luck I'll be able to spend a week at home as well. THEN at the end of the summer, I'm planning a trip with some of my book store friends to Scotland and Ireland. I am unbelievably excited!
Today we booked the Ireland portion of the trip. We each booked our flights separately and we'll be staying in a hostel that I found and booked online. It boasts that it has been voted one of the best hostels in Ireland, so that bodes well at least :) We just need a place to rest our heads at the end of the night.
In all of the excitement of booking and planning I realized that the planning is a huge part of the process of going on a trip like this, and for me at least, quite a bit of fun. It's a bit difficult being away from everyone I'm travelling with: L is in Scotland already doing her masters, S and KW are home in Halifax and KM is in small town Ontario for the summer. But, at the same time, being away from everyone and planning a trip means that I've talked to them more than I have in a while. Google Hangouts has been a God-send. Mind you, conversation gets off topic pretty quickly, but it's almost like we're actually hanging out after not seeing each other for so long. I'm starting to enjoy all the planning - searching for things, feeling the satisfaction of getting a deal or finding the cheapest price. It's great!
But, I didn't really get much done on my paper today. I researched and found the books and articles that I'll need and went to get the books from the library, but that's about it. So tomorrow I need to focus. I'll go to school, sequester myself in my windowless office and read like crazy until I can come up with an outline for the paper or run out of time, whichever comes first. I suppose that means I should go to bed.
Here's where I usually end the "I'm back" post by promising I'll post more often, but I'm not going to do that. The trip excitement probably means I will though, and maybe that will get me in the habit of it... or maybe not, who knows.
